Storing Furniture
It seems so easy to just hand your furniture pieces off to a moving company, but you must take special precautions to protect your pieces from damage.
Disassemble beds and wooden tables before storing. Clean
furniture with a gentle soap and water solution, then apply a coat of wax to
protect the finish (allow it to dry thoroughly before packing). Disassemble
beds and wooden tables before storing. Take all screws, nuts, and bolts and
place in a clear plastic bag and place into one of your storage boxes (you may
want to label the clear bag for example "table screws"). Wrap a blanket around headboards
and tabletopto prevent scratching or denting. A furniture pad can also be used
in place of a quilt. Furniture pads can be purchased though U-haul.
Fabric sofas, chairs, futons, and mattresses should be
cleaned prior to storing prevent mold and mildew growth during storage. Gently
wipe the surface with an antibacterial cleanser and warm water solution and
allow to completely air dry (you will want to do this a few days prior to your
pick up to ensure everything has dried completely). Leather or delicate fabric
furniture should be professionally cleaned before storage. Padded covers add an
extra element of protection and should be considered. Mattress bags and sofa covers can be purchased
though U-haul. http://www.uhaul.com/MovingSupplies/Covers-bags/
