Avoid Baggage Fees & Ship Your Luggage!

Airline baggage fees continue climb making traveling even more expensive. Shipping your luggage can be a more affordable option – and one less thing you need to worry about at the airport!
First, find out what the baggage fees are for your airline. Then determine the distance to your destination. The cost to ship your luggage will be based on its weight, dimensions, and distance shipped. The average cost to ship a suitcase domestic is $30-$55.

When packing your suitcase place heavier items in the bottom then lighter more delicate items on the top. If shipping any fragile items in your suitcase pad them well so they do not get damaged during transit. It is good practice to wrap your suitcase in some sort of protective binding to keep it from accidentally bursting open. Wrap the suitcase in packing tape or use Mover’s Stretch Plastic (this will protect your suitcase without creating a sticky mess!). FedEx also offers a luggage bag which is a great option to keep your suitcase intact while in transit.
A shipping label coming loose or falling off is the number one reason a suitcase can be lost during transit. It is critical that your shipping label is securely affixed to your luggage so that it does not fall off!
Most domestic shipments take 3-5 business days to arrive at their destination. Keep this in mind when determining when to ship out your suitcase. If shipping to a hotel, contact the hotel ahead of time so they can expect your suitcase and hold it for you until you arrive.
Not having the lug multiple bags though the airport will make traveling much more pleasant and more affordable. Ship don’t check!
