Preparing Your Dorm for the End of the Semester

That warm summer breeze is so close you can almost taste it! But before you can head home for the summer you need to pack up that dorm room!
It’s never too early to start preparing for move out. At the end of the semester you will have studying on your mind, not packing. Now is the time to start! Start a list of things you need to take home (make an inventory of these items), things you could sell or give away (such as textbooks, furniture, ect.), and things you need to recycle or throw away (old cloths, worn linens, used notebooks ect.). Next determine when you can tackle the items on your list. The first thing you will want to do is toss out those old items you do not need to save.
Gather your boxes and packing materials early! You will want to make sure you have enough supplies; you do not want to run out at the last minute when you should be studying. Use the inventory list that you prepared to make sure you have enough boxes. If you are going to use a storage or shipping service you will want to make arrangements as early as possible. Storage space near college campuses tend to fill up quickly.
Don’t wait until the last minute to start packing. Remember move out is a lot harder than move in because your parents are not there to help you. Consider packing a few things each day. Start by packing up your decorations and posters. Then move on to winter clothing that you will not be wearing for the rest of the semester. Packing early will help elevate some of that end of semester stress.
If you are heading home for spring break, you may want to consider bringing home some of those items you will not need for the remainder of the semester. Trust us you CAN live without that bean bag chair and 15 pairs of shoes for a few weeks!
If you have items that you can send home early consider shipping them home now. You may want to consider Collegeboxes Direct Shipping Service to have your boxes picked up directly from campus and shipped home at a low cost.
